Harsco Metals - About Us

Integrity & Values

Home > About Us > Integrity & Values

Strong values are the solid foundation of Harsco’s success and are common to all Harsco divisions. They define who we are and how we interact with our customers, suppliers, communities, and colleagues.

Harsco's Core Values can be viewed here. A summary is shown below.

1) Uncompromising Integrity and Ethical Business Practices
High standards of integrity and ethical business practices are fundamental to the way we do business, and are outlined in our Harsco Corporation Code of Conduct. In a hazardous industry like metals production, integrity also means the highest possible safety standards. Our long-term approach to customer relationships is underpinned by our belief that safety is paramount and our aim is to create an injury-free workplace.

2) Our People (the "A Team")

The people of our business are the catalysts who make all the other factors work together to create winning and sustainable performance. Harsco’s Human Capital Framework is an enterprise-wide system consisting of six interdependent activities:

- Recruitment and Selection using rigorous competency-based processes.

- Compensation and Benefits managed under a global compensation structure to ensure that Harsco attracts, retains and engages the right talent.

- Performance Management practices that ensure that each employee has measurable goals relevant to business performance and for their own individual development.

- Succession Planning to flexibly support Harsco’s continuing growth.

- Training and Development to give our people the required knowledge and skills to conduct their jobs and to prepare for future jobs.

- Workforce Planning discipline and structure to ensure that all other elements knit together.

3. Continuous Improvement

Harsco’s continuous improvement culture works through the sharing of best operating practice across the whole organisation. Harsco Metals is engaged in a systematic process of continuous improvement of our operations along ‘lean’ principles, seeking out potential cost efficiencies throughout the entire life of the customer relationship.

4) Value Creation Discipline

Economic Value Added, or EVA®, represents the actual value that Harsco creates after all its costs are met – including the cost of the capital provided by stockholders and lenders.

EVA® is a trademark of Stern Stewart & Co, used with permission.
