Tire Management System
With operations in over 30 countries, Harsco Metals’ fleet of mobile vehicles exceeds 2500 units spread across the globe. With heavy payloads being transported under harsh operating conditions, wear and tear on tires can be substantial. Therefore tires can be significant variable cost on a vehicle.
At Harsco, each vehicle tire is managed over its entire lifecycle, using an in-house ‘Tire Management System’. TMS allows maintenance engineers to monitor tire costs on a site-level basis through reporting of Key Performance Indicators, using parameters such as the tire supplier, working hours, and the vehicle type. TMS has resulted in a significant drop in the average tyre cost per SMU (Service Meter Unit) for Harsco Metals. After successful trials in the UK showing encouraging results, TMS is being rolled out worldwide.
